Serving Those Who Serve Our Country: Our work supporting veterans
For more than 20 years, hundreds of DLA Piper lawyers and business professionals have participated in Serving Those Who Serve Our Country, our pro bono project focused on assisting United States service members and veterans.
Our efforts include:
- Representing veterans in matters involving discharge upgrades, health benefits, Combat-Related Special Compensation, and filing appeals at the Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims and Board of Veterans’ Appeals
- Providing general civil legal services at Veterans Administration (VA) and legal aid clinics, as well as full-scope representation, including assisting veterans with family law matters, driver’s license revocations, criminal records clearance, and housing issues
- Volunteering at Stand Downs – events held nationwide that provide critical services to veterans experiencing homelessness – including assisting in driver’s license reinstatements and criminal records clearance
- Supporting disabled veteran entrepreneurs through legal training in business formation and counseling on topics such as entity choice, financing, equity, employment, real estate, corporate governance, and intellectual property (IP)
“Working with these veterans regularly is extremely rewarding. Many of them have serious legal problems, and being a part of these VA clinics where we provide invaluable assistance to veterans is something I am immensely proud of.”
– Case Manager Donna Look (Miami)
