Five DLA Piper lawyers receive Connect CRE’s Lawyers in Real Estate Awards

DLA Piper Partners Katherine Jahnke Dale, Heather Horowitz, Thanos Matthai, Casey Sobhani, and Brian Winterhalter have received Connect CRE 2025 Lawyers in Real Estate Awards, recognizing their contributions to successful real estate deals, their ability to navigate complex legal issues, and an overall impact on the real estate market.

Jahnke Dale is recognized in the Chicago and Midwest region category. She is the Location Head for the Chicago Real Estate practice, as well as the Co-Office Managing Partner for the firm’s Chicago and Minneapolis offices. Jahnke Dale advises developers, purchasers, sellers, and owners of institutional, residential, and commercial property. Her practice is focused in the areas of land use and zoning, public-private financing, public incentives, community, and economic development, as well as general real estate.

Horowitz, a partner in the New York office, is named in the New York and Tri-State region category. She advises investment banks, private equity funds, inbound overseas investors, and other institutional lenders, guiding clients through the origination and/or acquisition, disposition, and restructuring of mortgage and mezzanine construction, bridge, balance sheet, and securitized loans secured by various asset classes throughout North America.

Matthai, a Partner in the firm’s Boston office, is recognized in the Boston and New England region category. He represents institutional real estate investment advisors, REITs, investment funds, and developers on all aspects of commercial real estate transactions across the US. Matthai has particular experience in property acquisition, development, and financing transactions for single properties and large portfolios, joint ventures, and complex financing structures.

Sobhani, recognized in the California region category, serves as the firm’s Head of Leasing. A trusted advisor to some of the largest institutional real estate landlords, tenants, owners and managers in the world, Sobhani and his team handle leasing for more than 30 million square feet of office, retail and industrial space in the US and abroad and represent buyers and sellers of commercial real estate in high-profile and complex transactions.

Winterhalter, a Partner in the Northern Virginia office, is recognized in the Washington, DC and Mid-Atlantic region category. He represents major developers and national, regional, and local companies in all facets of land use, including noteworthy transit-oriented, mixed-use projects – office, hotel, residential, and integrated retail and urban infill residential projects, as well as major data center projects and related fiber optic conduit facilities in Virginia and throughout the country. He has a particular focus on and history of success in land use and zoning matters throughout the region.
