DLA Piper recognized as one of the Most Innovative Law Firms in North America by the Financial Times

Firm garners top spot in Innovative Lawyers in Technology and Innovative Practitioner categories

DLA Piper has received the Innovative Lawyers in Technology and Innovative Practitioner awards in the 2023 Financial Times Innovative Lawyers North America 2023 report. The firm was recognized in a total of four categories in addition to being ranked among the most innovative law firms.

In the Innovative Lawyers in Technology category, the firm was recognized for the launch of its Artificial Intelligence and Data Analytics practice, which unites a team of lawyers helping companies adopt AI with industry-leading data scientists who are transforming the practice of law itself. Establishing this cross-border, multi-disciplinary team at the intersection of science and law has enabled the firm to tackle a myriad of internal and external challenges related to AI adoption.

DLA Piper partner Danny Tobey, who chairs the firm’s AI and Data Analytics practice, received the Innovative Practitioner award. Tobey was recognized both for his own role as an advisor on many of the most well-known AI legal matters and for his leadership of the firm’s cross-functional AI team, which is helping corporations around the globe adopt AI in the face of tremendous economic, legal and ethical uncertainty.

“We are proud to be recognized for driving innovative global solutions that help our clients succeed in a rapidly changing legal and business environment,” said Frank Ryan, DLA Piper’s Americas chair. “Our teams of lawyers and business professionals are working on the cutting edge of legal practice, and we look forward to continuing our pursuit of exceptional results across all areas of practice for the benefit of our clients and communities.”

DLA Piper was also named a finalist in the Innovation in People & Skills Development category for its corporate data analytics internship program, which gives pre-law undergraduate students the opportunity to help build databases on topics such as corporate ESG practices and provide data analysis and visualization services for the firm’s attorneys and clients.

The firm was also recognized as a finalist in the Innovative Lawyers in Cybersecurity & Data Protection category for its full-bodied spectrum of cybersecurity counsel and solutions, spanning technical and legal acumen. The firm’s hybrid cybersecurity team, which includes cybersecurity and forensics consultants working alongside attorneys, has advised on some of the most complex and high-profile breaches across a multitude of sectors.

For seven years in a row, DLA Piper has been lauded by the Financial Times as one of the top legal innovators in North America.
