Lord Hutton of Furness appointed as Chair of the AIIP

DLA Piper, in supporting the establishment and operation of the Association of Infrastructure Investors in Public Private Partnerships (AIIP), is pleased to note the appointment of Lord John Hutton as its Chair.

Lord Hutton is an experienced politician with extensive service across business and industry. Lord Hutton served as a minister from 1998 – 2009, six of those years in the Department of Health, and the last four years at the Cabinet table as Secretary of State of three departments: (i) Ministry of Defence, (ii) Department for Business Enterprise and Regulatory Reform and (iii) Department for Work and Pensions.

Following his retirement from the Commons, Lord Hutton became a Labour peer in the House of Lords in 2010.

Lord Hutton will be supporting the AIIP with its activities including collaboration and engagement with the key public sector stakeholders including UK Government, Infrastructure and Projects Authority (IPA) and sponsoring government departments on important industry issues.

Lord Hutton says: “I am delighted to be taking on this new role. In the past couple of decades, private capital has played a hugely important role in modernising Britain’s public infrastructure. As we look to the future, it will be important to ensure that the benefits of this collaboration between the public and private sectors can inform our thinking about the next stage of investment in the public realm.”
