Alisha Akmal is a member of eXplore: DLA Piper’s eDiscovery Resource Center and is an essential team member supporting case teams and clients.  As a member of eXplore, Alisha provides high-level document review and analysis services essential for our clients, including production review, privilege review, quality control review, and fact investigation.  Alisha has significant experience with Relativity and other eDiscovery tools, including analytical tools and technology-assisted review.

Alisha has over a decade of eDiscovery experience.  Over the past six years, Alisha’s practice focused on white collar criminal investigations, primarily on potential violations of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) on behalf of individuals and entities.  Alisha worked at a major international law firm and for a federal contractor where she was assigned to the U.S. Department of Justice, Criminal Division, in the Fraud Section’s FCPA Unit.  During that time, Alisha assisted on investigations of multinational corporations by investigating corruption, bribery, money laundering, and other financial crimes, as well as ensuring the corporation was in compliance with company policies and regulations.

Additionally, after graduating from law school, Alisha served as a criminal prosecutor at the Kings County District Attorney’s Office in Brooklyn, New York.  Alisha was assigned to a trial bureau where she participated in all aspects of investigations and prosecutions, including conducting grand jury proceedings, plea negotiations for defendants, drafting accusatory instruments and motions, jury selection, hearings and trials.
