Adam Gerchick counsels clients on aviation, rail, and maritime matters, with a particular focus on airport and aviation regulation, development, and financing.
Adam often works at the nexus of regulatory and business strategy. He has advised a leading satellite-communications provider on US and foreign standards for serving aircraft, assisted a public entity seeking federal and local approval to establish a large aircraft cargo and maintenance hub, and represented the private developer of a major new terminal at one of the largest US airports on federal policy and negotiations with the airport proprietor.
Adam has also prepared and advised airport proprietors on airport rules and regulations, minimum standards, aeronautical leases and operating agreements, and other policies and agreements. He has regularly served as counsel to airport proprietors in compliance proceedings before the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and has advised airport board members, executives, and operational staff on federal aviation regulations and grant obligations.
In addition, Adam has served as bond, disclosure, and underwriter's counsel in bond offerings by large airport operators across the United States, and he has represented consortia of creditors in national airline and rental-car bankruptcies.
Adam has also handled various rail matters, including advising major commuter-rail operators with respect to a Class I railroad merger, trackage-rights negotiations, airport access agreements, and Federal Railroad Administration requirements. He has also counseled local governments with respect to preemption issues concerning aviation and rail regulation. In addition, Adam has represented a leading global travel-technology provider in a landmark consumer rulemaking before the US Department of Transportation.
Before joining the firm, Adam practiced in Washington at a national law firm specializing in airports, rail, and project development. Adam has taught continuing legal education courses on airport regulation and policy, including to FAA and Transportation Security Administration counsel.
