Michiel is well experienced in corporate and finance transactions and has broad experience with deals in the financial sector. He regularly assists (international) banks and borrowers in all types of domestic and international financing transactions. Michiel's experience includes all forms of debt financing, with his main areas focusing, in both a national and international context, on acquisition finance, general corporate loans and asset-based lending, (LMA, bilateral, syndicated, leveraged, secured).

EXPERIENCE

  • Advising Koninklijke De Heus in connection with its refinancing by an international syndicate of banks, including the financing arrangements of its major acquisition of CJ Feed & Care.
  • Advising an international lending syndicate on an a cross-jurisdiction and sustainability linked financing of ForFamers N.V. the facility has been arranged by an international syndicate of banks consisting of ABN AMRO, BNP Paribas, HSBC, ING, Rabobank and SEB. ABN AMRO acted as coordinator of the documentation process. BNP Paribas and HSBC acted as joint sustainability coordinators.
  • Advising a lending syndicate in connection with the financing of the acquisition of Interbaro Recycling by Raak Metals Group, a portfolio company of Gilde Equity Management.
  • Advising a lending syndicate in connection with the financing of the acquisition of Royal Merba by Gilde Equity Management.
  • Advising Glitnor Group Heus in connection with the financing of its acquisition OneCasino.
  • Advising Rabobank and ING Bank N.V. on a financing package of term debt and a RCF in respect of the refinancing of the existing facilities of Nature's Pride.

Prior Experience

  • Before joining DLA Piper, Michiel started his career in 2012 as an attorney at law at International law firm and moved to a renowned Dutch based law firm as of 2015.
  • In October 2021 Michiel worked to expand and start the banking and finance practice within a firm of the big four consultancy and accountancy firms, before joining DLA Piper in December 2024.
  • In 2019, Michiel spent five months' as legal secondee in Coöperatieve Rabobank U.A. Syndications Finance Team, allowing him to gain valuable insight into the financial services industry.
