David Lasker’s practice focuses on cross-border tax planning, with a particular emphasis on complex domestic and international tax issues, including private equity and private credit fund formation, structuring, and related transactions. He has extensive experience in tax advisory, deal tax support, and corporate tax consulting for global financial services clients. He has led the development and implementation of large-scale, multi-jurisdictional effective tax rate strategies for both US- and non-US-headquartered financial service clients.

David advises investment fund clients on fund setup and deal execution to maximize after-tax yield across a diverse investor base and a broad range of asset classes. He has experience with credit funds, private equity funds, multi-strategy hedge funds, and fund-of-funds. David has experience structuring funds to address the complex and varying tax considerations driven by a diverse investor base, including US, non-US, tax-exempt, and sovereign investors.

David has represented clients in negotiations and dispute resolution matters with tax authorities and has served as lead tax counsel on strategic tax planning and M&A transactions.

EXPERIENCE

David previously was a tax partner at a Big Four accounting firm, where he served as the tax lead for many large multinational banking, investment fund, and asset management clients.

David served as lead tax advisor for a large institutional fund sponsor with regard to the capital raise and capital deployment phases of multiple private credit and private equity funds.

David led the firm’s team that provided audit support for more than 200 investment fund clients across a wide range of fund types. He set the firm’s strategy for investment fund tax review and worked with clients to address potential exposures. In recent years, David led the firm’s initiative on BEPS Pillar 2 approach for investment funds.

David also led the development and implementation of numerous tax structures for corporate financial services clients with respect to US and cross-border tax planning initiatives. David has extensive experience developing tax structures for financial services clients while coordinating the challenges associated with complex regulatory environments.
