DLA Piper receives Law360 Product Liability Practice Group of the Year award

DLA Piper’s success representing Monsanto in potentially hundreds of millions of dollars in liability relating to the herbicide Roundup, as well as several achievements in multidistrict litigation over Ozempic, earned it the Law360 2024 Product Liability Practice Group of the Year award.

In a Law360 profile outlining reasons the firm was chosen, Christopher Campbell, Chair of the firm’s Product Liability and Mass Torts Practice, said, "We have people who specialize in environmental issues, we have a PFAS task force … others working on regulatory matters and other folks with medical degrees and PhDs in biostatistics who are working on the crossover point where science and litigation meet. It's not just one person leading the way, but a firm of leaders in different areas."

In addition to DLA Piper’s successful trial defense of Bayer's Monsanto in a lawsuit related to the herbicide Roundup, the outlet noted the firm’s successful track record representing Bayer in more than 100 cases in Brazil, Spain, Canada, and France over the company’s Essure contraceptive device, as well as its representation of Novo Nordisk in ongoing multidistrict litigation over the diabetes and obesity drugs Ozempic, Wegovy, and Rybelsus.

Loren Brown, DLA Piper’s US Vice Chair and Chair of the US Disputes Practice, told the outlet that mass torts have become an increasingly significant focus for many law firms.

“We're often defending these very newsworthy, significant issues: health, safety, welfare, and environmental issues that really hit home and are important to people,” he said. “We've gotten to a point where we've really hit our stride and have major roles in many of the biggest cases in America.”

DLA Piper’s Product Liability team works across practices and industries globally, helping clients navigate evolving product safety standards and defend complex multidistrict litigation. With a deep bench of litigators who are medical doctors and others who hold PhDs and advanced scientific and technical degrees, the team has a strong track record of achieving ground-breaking legal victories and resolving claims to bring mass torts to an early end.
