With over 14 years of experience at DLA Piper, David provides strategic counsel on complex real estate transactions spanning multiple asset classes, industries, and geographies. He serves as a trusted advisor to Fortune 500 companies, private equity firms and their portfolio companies, institutional investors, and developers on matters requiring both technical excellence and commercial judgment.

David represents clients at every stage of the real estate investment lifecycle, from acquisition through disposition. His practice encompasses purchase and sale transactions, commercial leasing, and sale-leaseback structures across diverse asset classes and industry sectors. Known for his pragmatic approach, David delivers business-minded advice that helps clients achieve their strategic objectives while managing risk.

  • Lead real estate counsel to a Fortune Global 500 public company in connection with its domestic and global real estate portfolio, including acquisitions, dispositions, and leasing transactions in the United States and internationally
Public Company Global Reorganizations
  • Lead real estate counsel in a public company's carve-out and spin-off of its global upstream energy business, a transaction involving more than 170 owned and leased properties across 90 countries
  • Lead real estate counsel in a public company's strategic acquisition of an electronics and ultrapure water technologies business, a transaction involving 88 owned and leased properties across 16 countries
  • Lead real estate counsel in a public company's carve-out and spin-off of its aerospace technologies business into an independent, U.S. publicly traded company, a transaction involving more than 115 owned and leased properties across 21 countries

  • Represented a Major League Soccer franchise in the negotiation and execution of a ground lease for the development of a new training facility and related community benefits agreements
  • Represented a Major League Soccer franchise in the negotiation of an amended and restated lease agreement for the wind-down of stadium operations, and a new permit and operating agreement at its interim downtown stadium facility

  • Lead real estate counsel to a renewable energy company in the acquisition and development of multiple utility-scale wind energy projects in Iowa, including two projects generating more than 200 MW and one project generating approximately 166 MW of capacity
  • Lead real estate counsel to a renewable energy company in the acquisition and development of a 75-MW utility-scale solar energy project in Virginia
