EXPERIENCE

  • Chris is lead global strategic and coordination counsel for Bayer in a global mass tort involving a contraceptive medical device that has spanned five continents and more than a dozen countries. In the litigation, the defense has a near 100% success rate, with more than 150 favorable findings by trial courts, appellate courts, and court-appointed experts. This includes a recent class action trial win in the Supreme Court of Victoria in Melbourne, Australia, which issued a complete defense judgment.
  • Chris is national trial counsel for Hankook Tire and has successfully tried a number of their product liability cases across the country, including in Arkansas, Missouri, North Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia.See, e.g., Cone v. Hankook Tire, Case No. 14-CV-01122 (E.D. Tenn.).
  • Chris is lead national counsel for Bayer in the multi-district litigation involving phenylephrine, which resulted in a complete dismissal by the trial court on federal preemption grounds.See In re Oral Phenylephrine Marketing and Sales Practices Litigation, 2024 WL 4606818 (EDNY Oct. 29, 2024).
  • Chris is lead counsel for Novo Nordisk in a product liability litigation involving the alleged sharing of insulin pens by a hospital in Connecticut.
  • Chris serves as global and national counsel for Bayer in product liability and class action matters related to Mirena, which have resulted in complete dismissals in California and Washington, as well as China.

Bylines

Chris is co-author of the book Expert Witnesses: Products Liability Cases (Thomson Reuters 2d ed. 2012), an in-depth guide to expert witness development in all types of product liability and mass tort matters, including pharmaceutical, environmental and toxic torts, automotive, industrial accidents and children's and consumer products. He co-authored the article "Sacking the Monday Morning Quarterback: Tackling Hindsight Bias in Failure-to-Warn Cases," For the Defense (October 2010), for which he received the Defense Research Institute's G. Duffield Smith Outstanding Publication Award. The award honors DRI's most outstanding defense-related article published that year.
