DLA Piper advises Unilever in its acquisition of Yasso

DLA Piper advised Unilever in the closing of its acquisition of Yasso Holdings, Inc., a US-based premium frozen Greek yogurt brand.

Founded in Boston in 2009, Yasso provides health-conscious consumers with indulgent, high-quality products that pack less than 150 calories per serving. The acquisition comes at a time when the demand for healthier, indulgent frozen snacks are on the rise in North America.

Yasso joins Unilever’s roster of premium brands that includes Ben & Jerry’s, Magnum and Talenti. The acquisition is a critical move in the “premiumisation” strategy of Unilever’s Ice Cream Business Group.

“We were pleased to advise Unilever in connection with its acquisition of Yasso, a fan-favorite frozen dessert brand with a dedicated following. It was a pleasure to work with Unilever on this transaction and we look forward to assisting them in growing their enterprises in the future,” said Jonathan Klein, the DLA Piper partner who led the deal team.

In addition to Klein (New York), the DLA Piper team included partners Margaret Craig (Boston), Bill Bartow (Philadelphia), Paolo Morante and Garret Kennedy (both in New York) and Keith Ranta (Washington, DC); of counsel Alexandra Lauvaux (New York); and associate Maggie Blaisdell (Minnesota).

With more than 1,000 corporate lawyers globally, DLA Piper helps clients execute complex transactions seamlessly while supporting clients across all stages of development. The firm has been rated number one in global M&A volume for 13 consecutive years, according to Mergermarket.
