About

Diego is an Associate in DLA Piper’s Capital Markets team.

He represents global banks, alternative lenders, sponsors and investment funds across a broad range of capital markets transactions, with a particular focus on securitisations (both cash and synthetic), structured finance, financial derivatives, treasury products and debt offerings.

He also advises clients on financial regulation, liability management transactions, distressed M&A, and corporate governance matters.

In 2026 he completed a client secondment with the in-house legal department of a leading Spanish bank, where he advised on derivatives matters.

EXPERIENCE

Diego's experience includes advising:

  • Commodities Securitization S.A. as sponsor on a landmark whole-business securitisation of a EUR150m battery energy storage system (BESS) project.
  • A consortium of institutional investors and banking entities, led by Goldman Sachs as global coordinator and placement agent, on a landmark EUR332m securitisation to support the construction of the Nou Mestalla, the future stadium of Valencia Club de Fútbol.
  • A consortium of institutional investors and banking entities, led by Goldman Sachs Goldman as placement agent, on the refinancing of the Espai Barça project through the issuance of Series B securitisation notes by Espai Barca FT for an amount of EUR424m.
  • A leading Spanish bank on a DKK13bn synthetic STS securitisation to hedge the credit risk associated with a portfolio of auto loans.
  • A London-based private equity firm on a c. EUR418m securitisation backed by a portfolio of non-performing loans relating to the construction and development of nine Spanish toll roads.
  • The dealers in connection with ADIF-Alta Velocidad’s EUR10bn EMTN programme.
  • The joint lead managers on a dual-tranche bond offering by ADIF-Alta Velocidad for an aggregate nominal amount of EUR1.5bn.
  • A group of financial institutions acting as managers on a EUR500m green bond issue by ADIF-Alta Velocidad.
  • The dealer manager on the EUR570m exchange offer relating to certain notes issued by Sacyr under its EMTN programme.
  • TDA 25 FTA on the sale of a portfolio of mortgage securities ie mortgage participations (PH) and mortgage transfer certificates (CTH) and real estate assets in the context of the fund's liquidation.
  • A US-based activist hedge fund, as member of a group of minority shareholders, on the coordinated action to appoint a proprietary director to the board of an IBEX 35 company.
