Compassion in action: Our global fight to combat hunger

According to Feeding America, the largest hunger relief organization in the United States, approximately 47 million people nationwide face food insecurity – including 14 million, or one in five, children.

DLA Piper is committed to addressing food insecurity by providing legal counsel to food banks. Our work has included providing emergency food assistance and healthy food access in under-resourced places, training nonprofits, serving on food bank boards, and volunteering to pack food at local food banks.

Our pro bono clients include Feeding America, the Capital Area Food Bank, the Greater Chicago Food Depository, the North Texas Food Bank (NTFB), and The Global FoodBanking Network (GFN), which the firm helped establish 18 years ago.

Below, our clients discuss their work in the fight against hunger.

In her podcast with Global Co-Chair of Corporate Kathleen Ruhland (Minneapolis/Chicago), Lisa Moon, President and Chief Executive Officer of GFN, said:

"Since 2007, DLA Piper has provided invaluable legal support to GFN and our member food banks around the world. This partnership has helped our network reach millions of people facing food insecurity every day, as well as reduce the corrosive environmental impacts of food loss and waste."

“I’m thrilled to step into the role of outside counsel for the North Texas Food Bank. It means a lot to me to play a small role in helping to improve the well-being of the North Texas community through the food bank’s programming and efforts. NTFB is a pillar of the community, and I look forward to building on the strong relationship between NTFB and DLA Piper Dallas.”
