DLA Piper advises on first of its kind wind repowering project in Africa

DLA Piper has advised the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), Société Générale, Attijariwafa Bank, Banque Centrale Populaire and Bank of Africa on the development and financing of the repowering of the Koudia Al Baida wind farm in the north of Morocco. This will be developed by MASEN and EDF Renouvelables. This is the first such wind repowering project in Africa and the wider MENA region.

Once completed, Koudia Al Baida wind farm will double its capacity, reaching 100MW to deliver energy to 42,0000 people, helping Morocco to meet its target to produce more than 52% of its electricity from renewable energy by 2030.

Nacim Bounouara, Energy & Infrastructure Projects Partner at DLA Piper, says: “We are delighted to have worked on this milestone repowering project, the first of its kind in the region, as Morocco pushes for significant growth in renewable energy infrastructure.”

The DLA Piper team was led by Nacim Bounouara and included London-based Partner Rubayet Choudhury, Paris-based Partner Eric Villateau, Legal Director Mark Valenzia, Of Counsel Felix Ndi-Obiosa, Senior Associate Jacques Camilleri, Associates Sam Newman, Hugh McCrea and Youssif Abdelrahman, and Trainee Lucy Staves.
