Amy O'Brien

Amy O'Brien is an associate in DLA Piper's Environmental Practice Group, where she focuses on regulatory counseling, enforcement defense, and civil litigation. She advises clients across a wide range of industries on complex environmental regulatory frameworks, with a particular emphasis on waste management and chemicals compliance. Amy regularly helps companies anticipate and respond to mandates for PFAS and other emerging contaminants, guiding them through the evolving regulatory landscape.

Amy has significant experience representing clients in high-stakes environmental enforcement matters and government investigations. She counsels clients on interactions with federal and state environmental agencies, responds to inspections and notices of violation, and negotiates favorable resolutions in administrative proceedings and civil litigation. Her practice also includes advising clients on operational risk assessment and proactive strategies to mitigate potential liability under environmental laws, including the development and implementation of effective EHS compliance programs.

In addition, Amy represents potentially responsible parties in long-term remediation efforts at federal Superfund sites. She guides clients through the complexities of CERCLA liability, including cost allocation among responsible parties and coordination with EPA and state agencies on ongoing site investigation and cleanup activities.

Prior to joining DLA Piper, Amy was an associate in the environmental practice group of a global law firm.
