Stephan Maranian’s growing practice is focused on a wide variety of environmental matters, including environmental due diligence and enforcement defense. He assists clients navigate complex issues arising under federal and state laws in the ever-evolving environmental legal landscape. Stephan has experience in product liability litigation as well as regulatory advising and compliance related to PFAS and other emerging contaminants.

EXPERIENCE

  • Advised US energy company on litigation prevention plan in relation to development of new facilities
  • Represents global tire company in first-of-its-kind Endangered Species Act litigation against the tire industry regarding the use of an anti-degradation chemical, 6PPD, in tires
  • Represents multinational chemical corporation in multidistrict litigation and other actions involving claims of environmental contamination from PFAS chemicals 
  • Guides clients through environmental due diligence, including Phase I and II Environmental Site Assessments.
  • Advises manufacturers on spill and emergency response procedures and best practices

Pro Bono

  • Collaborated with multinational organization in drafting its Climate Resilience & Sustainable Operations Roadmap
  • Advised global environmental nonprofit on best practices related to conservation-minded donor hunts, which included drafting a participant waiver and standard operating procedures
  • Assisted in the production of Lawyers for Good Government’s Wetlands Dashboard, a reference resource that organizes state-level wetland protections following Sackett v. Environmental Protection Agency
  • Contributed to Net Zero Lawyers Alliance's "US Climate Atlas" in collaboration with the Centre for Climate Engagement at Hughes Hall, University of Cambridge
