Emma Phillips appointed as Office Managing Partner for Birmingham

Global law firm DLA Piper announces the appointment of Emma Phillips as Office Managing Partner (OMP) of the firm's Birmingham office, effective 1 May 2026.

Emma succeeds Noel Haywood, who steps down after almost four years in the role, and will return to his Corporate practice, where he advises businesses in the Consumer Goods, Food & Retail sector on their cross-border M&A and disposal transactions. Noel has been with the firm since 1998 and has served as OMP since 2022. During his tenure, he strengthened DLA Piper’s standing in the Birmingham City region, acted as a leading voice within the regional legal and business community, and championed the development of talent across all levels of the office.

Emma joined DLA Piper in 2008 and became a partner in 2017. She has built a highly successful contentious and non‑contentious Employment practice, advising clients on global transformation projects, post‑M&A integration, high‑value employment litigation and cross‑border workforce issues. Emma is recognised for her ability to lead complex international mandates and for her strong commitment to developing people and fostering collaboration across teams.

As OMP, Emma will oversee the strategic direction, operational management and people agenda of the Birmingham office. She will work closely with the UK Senior Leadership Team to drive growth, deepen client relationships and support the continued development of the firm’s regional presence.

Andrew Dyson, UK Country Managing Partner, DLA Piper, said: “I’d like to thank Noel for his leadership of our Birmingham office; he has been a role model of our firm’s values and has brought exceptional leadership to the office. I am pleased that he will continue to play an important part in our business. Emma’s appointment reflects her strong track record, collaborative approach and commitment to our people. I look forward to working with her as she helps lead the next phase of our growth in Birmingham.”

Emma Phillips, Birmingham Office Managing Partner, DLA Piper, added: “I would like to thank Noel for his leadership as OMP over the last four years. He has been, and will remain, a strong advocate for our office and our people. I am honoured to take on this role and excited about the opportunities ahead. We have a talented and ambitious team in Birmingham, and I look forward to working with colleagues across the office to drive our strategic priorities and continue delivering exceptional results for our clients.”
