Kate Pickthall has extensive experience advising on the legal and commercial issues arising on real estate transactions including acquisition and disposal of real estate assets, major leasing matters for landlord and tenant clients and real estate development work. She advises across the retail, commercial, industrial and residential asset classes and also specialises in property finance and acts on distressed real estate transactions.

Kate has also worked amongst in-house legal teams (under various secondment arrangements), enabling her to gain a solid understanding of business drivers whilst balancing the legal risks.

EXPERIENCE

Capital transactions/Investment:
  • Advised a global real estate family office on its acquisition of a tenanted commercial/retail building in Fortitude Valley, Queensland as well as an industrial building in Adelaide, South Australia.
  • Advised one of the world’s leading biopharmaceutical companies on the sale and leaseback of a manufacturing plant in Adelaide.
  • Advising a multi facet electricity company on their acquisition and lease of land in Queensland for the development and operation of power plants.
  • Acting for a leading global early education and child care provider on the acquisition of numerous other childcare providers, supporting their expansion strategy.
  • Acting for an Australian based coal producer on its divestment of various development sites around the Hunter Valley in New South Wales.
Development:
  • Advising a hyperscale data centre specialist on the acquisition of various parcels of vacant land in New South Wales for the construction and operation of data facilities.
  • Advising a multinational cloud computing company, on various projects throughout Australia. These have included the development of land for data centres in both Melbourne and Sydney.
  • Acted for a British e-commerce company in relation to the construction and lease of their new warehouse and office facility in Truganina Victoria being part of a new Logistics Hub.
Leasing:
  • Acted for a global leader in alternative asset management on a number of transactions including, most recently, in relation to the lease of their new head office premises at Brookfield Place, Sydney.
  • Acting for an American cloud-based software company in relation to the development of its new high-rise building to be constructed at Sydney's Circular Quay, as well as all other real estate and leasing matters throughout Australia.
