DLA Piper advises Prime Capital on the acquisition of Germany's largest co-located BESS and Solar PV project and a strategic joint venture for a hyperscale data center

DLA Piper has advised Prime Capital AG (“Prime Capital”), a leading asset manager focused on alternative investments, acting on behalf of the Prime Green Energy Infrastructure Fund II S.A., SICAV-RAIF, on the acquisition of WBS Flugplatz GmbH that includes a 500 MW / 2,000 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) and up to 150 MWp of Solar PV on a former airfield, making it the largest co-located BESS and Solar PV project currently planned in Germany. The signing took place on 26/27 November; closing is subject to achieving the ready-to-build status of the projects.

The transaction involves Project Jupiter, which includes the BESS and Solar PV project located on a former military airfield in Brandenburg. With an expected investment of EUR500 million, construction is expected to start in late 2026 or early 2027. Both the BESS facility and the Solar PV project will share a single grid connection to the 380 kV high-voltage line, ensuring efficient integration into Germany’s energy system.

Additionally, the parties to the transaction will establish a strategic joint venture to develop a hyperscale data center with a planned capacity of up to 500 MW on-site. This initiative addresses the growing demand for data centers in Germany, particularly those co-located with renewable energy infrastructure with such facilities being energy-intensive and benefiting significantly from direct access to renewable power and grid stability.
