DLA Piper strengthens its Employment practice in Belgium with the promotion of Pierre Dion to its partnership

DLA Piper in Belgium is proud to announce the promotion of employment lawyer Pierre Dion to its partnership. Pierre is an all-round employment lawyer, covering the full spectrum of Belgian and international employment law, social security law, and pensions law, both for individual and collective labour relations. Having joined the firm in 2013 as a junior associate, he has progressively climbed the ranks to the position of Partner, earning him the respect of both his mentors and peers, which is also stated in Legal Directories such as Legal 500. He will complement the work of current Employment Partners Laurent De Surgeloose and Eddy Lievens.

DLA Piper’s Employment practice in Belgium is recognised for seamlessly combining world-wide expertise with in-depth local knowledge. While it can rely on immediate contacts across the globe to answer foreign companies’ queries, it also gathers an unequalled understanding of the national and regional landscapes of the country. DLA Piper has gained a strong reputation for its comprehensive advice on employment law, covering areas like benefits, pensions, collective bargaining, discrimination, M&A, restructuring, data protection, and privacy.

Pierre primarily assists national and international companies with human resources management. His responsibilities include hiring and firing employees, implementing and reviewing company policies, reviewing employment terms, and optimizing benefits. He also guides businesses in implementing flexible work regimes, litigation, compensation and benefits, collective bargaining, in-and-outsourcing, and pensions matters. Clients know him best for helping them navigate the complex Belgian employment landscape with workable and pragmatic solutions.

Pierre Dion, DLA Piper Partner says: “The speed at which global political dynamics and technological advances are impacting both the private and public sectors is unparalleled. While having to keep up with the latest market shifts, employers are also increasingly mindful of the latest ESG regulations and want to know how best to implement them to ensure safe, healthy, and stimulating work environments. Considering these many transformations, our ability to provide immediate and pragmatic assistance on the full array of employment matters is essential. I look forward to contributing to further shaping our Employment practice in this direction.”

Pierre’s appointment is part of a broader set of recent recruitments to grow the firm’s wide array of practices in Belgium and make Brussels DLA Piper’s EU Centre of Excellence. In Belgium, the firm recently recruited Chris Thompson, an experienced Transactions Tax and Indirect Tax partner.

Kristof De Vulder, DLA Piper Country Managing Partner Belgium says: “It is a pleasure for us to welcome Pierre into the Partnership. With multinational businesses increasingly choosing Belgium as their headquarters, having a Brussels-based team that can support them navigating all the intricacies of employment law in Belgium is key. Pierre’s impressive background in employment law and dedicated focus on chemistry, life sciences, technology, and logistics sectors align perfectly with our Brussels office’s expansion into the firm’s EU Centre of Excellence.”
