As head of the firm's Québec privacy and data protection group, Carly advises clients across diverse industries – including pharmaceutical, telecommunications, hospitality and retail – on compliance with the robust privacy and data protection laws applicable at the federal and provincial levels in Québec.

Carly's practice spans a wide range of privacy matters, including the drafting and application of confidentiality procedures and policies, the negotiation of data-processing agreements, cross-border data transfers, the implementation of biometric and tracking technologies, data subject access requests and guiding businesses through enforcement actions.

Carly has extensive experience assisting clients with the management and response to confidentiality and cybersecurity incidents. By leveraging DLA Piper's global presence, Carly's experience includes coordinating swift and cohesive multi-jurisdictional incident response. Given her proficiency in this area, Carly has served as privacy counsel in the context of defending against class action litigation resulting from material data breaches and confidentiality incidents having impacted some of the world's most recognizable brands.

Carly's employment practice focuses on all aspects of management-side employment law, including hiring and termination, complying with employment standards legislation, performance and discipline, employment agreements and workplace policies, health and safety compliance, workplace investigations, French language requirements and employee privacy issues.

Carly frequently acts as lead privacy and employment counsel in many complex cross-border mergers and acquisitions.

Known for her practical and forward-thinking approach, Carly helps clients navigate the challenges of today's interconnected and highly regulated business environment. Carly joined DLA Piper in 2016 after earning both civil and common law degrees from McGill University. She is deeply engaged in the Montreal community, currently serving as Vice-President of the Board for a halfway house organization supporting the reintegration of individuals in conflict with the law. Carly is also active in Montreal's Irish community and passionately contributes to her family's Christmas Basket initiative, which supports adult learners pursuing high school and vocational education.
