DLA Piper welcomes Robert Fettman, expanding structured finance and insurance regulatory counsel

DLA Piper has added Partner Robert Fettman to its Structured Finance practice, reinforcing the firm’s capabilities in high-stakes financial transactions and related regulatory matters, including insurance company investments, insurance-linked securities, and capital solutions. He is based in the New York office.

Fettman’s practice sits at the crossroads of insurance and financial services, with deep experience advising on a full range of US insurance regulatory matters, including regulatory treatment of investments, product development and filing strategies, corporate governance, compliance, and licensing requirements. Clients frequently seek his guidance on navigating evolving National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) rules, as well as state-level implementation of insurance holding company and investment-related regulations and examinations.

In addition to his core regulatory practice, Fettman advises on transactional matters involving insurance companies and intermediaries. He has substantial experience guiding public and private insurers, private equity sponsors, and pension funds through complex acquisitions, minority investments, and other strategic transactions in the life and property/casualty sectors. He also maintains a strong focus on insurance technology (Insurtech) and advises both established insurers and venture capital firms on the regulatory implications of emerging technologies.

“Many of the transactions our clients are pursuing today demand a coordinated approach across finance and regulation,” said Richard Reilly, Global Co-Chair of the firm’s Finance practice and Co-Head of the Structured Finance practice. “Robert pairs sophisticated structured finance execution with deep insurance regulatory counsel to help manage risk, navigate complex requirements, and unlock new capital and investment opportunities.”

DLA Piper advises on all aspects of financing across borders, sectors, and financial products. The firm’s lawyers advise issuers, underwriters, selling shareholders, sponsors, arrangers, lead managers, originators, dealers, trustees, and depositaries on a broad range of capital markets offerings, including equity, equity-linked and debt securities, structured and project financings, and securitizations.
